So I’m a relatively shy girl. Scrap that; I’m an extremely shy girl. For most of my life I’ve pondered over how to make myself more confident.
Many people told me that the key was in making myself feel good about myself. I asked for an example of this and they would tell me “Looking good on the outside makes you feel good on the inside”.
Well folks I can tell you that is only HALF of it. Yeah, making yourself beautiful makes you feel better on the inside BUT it only makes you feel slightly confident. What do I mean? Well I feel more confident when I’m all dressed up with my hair and make up done to perfection, but then I meet somebody new and I find myself right back at square one all tongue tied and nervous.
But I think I may have stumbled upon the answer. You need to push yourself. Push yourself to do something you wouldn’t usually do. Just a little something at a time. How did I stumble upon this? I started a new job back in March where I had to make business calls. The thought of doing so scared me to the core but as it was part of my job description, I kinda had to do it. At first I used to write out my scripts with what I was going to say but by the end of it, I could quite happily pick up the phone, dial a number and say what needed to be said.
So my conclusion is if you’re shy push yourself a little each day in the direction you want to go. You’ll get there eventually. .
